Russia: Price of early potatoes dropping
Thanks to the active promotion of harvesting in the southern region, the prices of new crop potatoes in Russia have decreased by an average of 27% since the beginning of this week.
According to the EastFruit project , harvesting early potatoes is now in full swing in the Krasnodar Territory; the first harvest began to be harvested by producers in the Astrakhan and Rostov regions, as well as in the Stavropol Territory.
In this regard, the supply of potatoes in the markets of the southern and central region of the country has increased dramatically, and since the beginning of the week prices from 30-45 rubles / kg ($ 0.46-0.70 / kg) have fallen to 22-32 rubles / kg ($ 0, 34-0.50 / kg). To date, wholesale companies have almost completely switched to Russian products.
As for the price of last year’s potatoes, today the producer manages to keep it at last week’s level. Thus, prices for last year’s potatoes are formed in the range of 10-18 rubles / kg ($ 0.15-0.28 / kg). At the same time, the majority of market operators predict a fall in prices in this segment as early as next week, since the quality of last year’s potatoes is rapidly deteriorating as a result of long-term storage.
