Brazil: Rains put onion producers in the south on alert
The 2025/26 onion harvest in Paraná is progressing, but this week’s rains (October 27-31) slowed down activities in Guarapuava and Irati.
According to The Weather Channel, the accumulated rainfall in the last seven days in both areas was around 55 mm.
While this volume is not yet a cause for concern and, according to Hortifrúti/Cepea collaborators, has even been beneficial for the crops, the forecast of more rain in the coming days, added to the need for post-harvest curing, could delay the season and reduce the supply of onions from Paraná.
In Santa Catarina, specifically in Ituporanga, the concern is greater.
The heavy rains forecast for early November — with accumulated rainfall expected to exceed 35 mm on the 7th alone — could delay the start of activities in the area.
