Brazil: Rains raise prices at all wholesalers
In RJ the increase was 25.8%
Potato prices rose this week (September 22-26) at all wholesalers. In São Paulo, the average was R$37/sqm, a 22.4% increase over the previous period; in Rio de Janeiro, the increase was 25.8%, to R$38/sqm; and in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, it was 22%, to R$38/sqm.
The increase is due to rain in the producing regions last weekend, which continued into the beginning of the week (Monday and Tuesday), hampering the harvest and reducing supply.
Agricultural activities resumed throughout the week, putting pressure on prices, but far from reducing the averages compared to the previous period.
