Belgium: No Belgapom quotation for early potatoes again
On September 19, the sector organization Belgapom reported that there was again no Belgapom quotation for potatoes on the free market this week due to a lack of transactions.

There was no Belgapom quotation in recent weeks. The last quotation was dated August 8th and was €15 per tonne (excluding VAT). Including VAT, this translates to €15.90 per tonne. Market sentiment for these potato varieties was subdued at the time, with supply exceeding demand.
Most used price
The Belgapom price for early potatoes is the most commonly used price observed on the previous business day for machine-harvested early varieties for processing into frozen potato products, field crop 35 mm+, suitable for fries, ex-producer, loose on the truck, for immediate delivery/collection.
The Belgapom price is determined by a committee consisting of 5 representatives from the processing section and 5 representatives from the trade section of Belgapom.
Free market and contracts
The weekly Belgapom quotation for Fontane and Challenger (storage season) provides a clear indication of the evolution of the free potato market for processing potatoes into frozen fries.
In addition, growers, traders, and processors are increasingly using cultivation contracts, which aim to achieve greater commodity price stability. The relationship between these two instruments for buying and selling potatoes can vary from company to company.
Both components must be taken into account to track the evolution of the raw material price.
