Spain: Sanlúcar will compete to have the best potato in the country.
The Spunta variety will represent the town in the 1st Tasting Competition of the Association of Potato Producing Towns, held in Xinzo de Limia.

The town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda will be represented at the first edition of the Potato Tasting Competition organized by the Association of Potato Producing Towns, which will be held next Friday, September 5, at the Alimagro Fair in Xinzo de Limia (Ourense).
The municipality will compete with the Spunta variety, one of the six candidates for the title of "Best Potato of the Year." This variety will compete against five others from different parts of Spain: Soprano (Cartagena, Murcia), Donata (Medina del Campo, Valladolid), Kennebec (Coristanco, A Coruña), Agria (Xinzo de Limia, Ourense), and Cimega (La Rinconada, Seville).
Professional tasters will evaluate the potatoes based on characteristics such as flavor, texture, and aroma, while the public will also have the opportunity to participate as a jury. The organizers have invited food enthusiasts to register and participate in the selection process for the best potato.
From Sanlúcar, participation in this competition represents recognition of the work of local producers and the area’s agricultural tradition. The Spunta variety, known for its culinary versatility, now seeks to gain national recognition and showcase the quality of Sanlúcar’s production.
The Association of Potato-Producing Towns, the competition’s sponsor, seeks to promote collaboration between producing municipalities and highlight the importance of potatoes in Spanish gastronomy and agriculture.
