This initiative will be implemented by the Piura Regional Government, through its Directorate of Agriculture, with an investment of more than 14.2 million soles. This project not only seeks to optimize production but also to revitalize the potato production chain in Piura by boosting competitiveness.
This project includes the implementation of four components aimed at improving the quality and productivity of this tuber. The list includes the adoption of technologies, integrated pest and disease management, training and technical assistance, and organizational management and market coordination.
Actions to be taken
The first actions to be taken include the sanitation of five native potato varieties in the region. These are the yellow Huayro, yellow Tumbay, yellow Chaucha, red Antigua, and yellow Huayro with purple flowers potatoes.
This sanitation will free these potatoes from viruses and diseases. The installation of 93 hectares of demonstration modules with high-quality seeds is also planned.
