EEUU: Simplot acquires Clarebout Potatoes in 2025
The JR Simplot Company, a privately held food and agriculture company based in Boise, Idaho, announced its intention to acquire the operating business of Clarebout Potatoes, a Belgium-based potato processor.
This proposed acquisition brings together two producers in the global frozen potato market. The transaction is expected to close in 2025, subject to regulatory approvals.
According to Simplot, this transaction will strengthen its position in the European market and combine the assets of 23 production sites to support a broader global customer base. As part of this agreement, Clarebout Potatoes will retain and potentially expand its staff and production sites in Europe. Both companies are family businesses that previously operated independently in their respective regions.
Jan Clarebout, CEO of Clarebout, said the company could have continued to operate independently, but current economic conditions and shared goals prompted the decision to merge. The deal is seen as a step toward long-term operational continuity in a changing global agricultural landscape.
