Spain: The Basque Government is investing 6.78 million euros to revive seed potato cultivation in Álava.
The new Plan aims to revitalize seed potato cultivation by increasing the number of hectares cultivated in Alava.

The Basque Government has proposed to Alava farmers that they "recover" potato cultivation "as a step forward for the measures being developed in the Seed Potato Sector Plan," to which it will allocate an initial budget of €6.78 million for the 2025-2026 period.
“Seed potatoes are an essential component in the agricultural production chain and the basis for growing potatoes for consumption,” stated Minister Amaia Barredo, during a meeting with industry representatives. “In the Basque Country, particularly in Álava, potato production has traditionally been significant, although the area under cultivation has decreased in recent decades,” she noted. The new plan aims to revitalize seed potato production by increasing the number of hectares under cultivation, improving the sector’s added value and its future viability. Álava has historically been a prominent region in seed potato production, thanks to its favorable agroclimatic conditions and long agricultural tradition.Fuente:
