Peru (Piura): Regional Government and INIA inaugurate potato seed greenhouse in Huancabamba.
In the Tocllapite hamlet of Huancabamba, the district and province of Huancabamba, the first greenhouse for seed potato production was inaugurated, an initiative that will directly benefit 200 farmers in the area.
This project was implemented by the National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA), with technical support from the Piura Regional Government through the Regional Directorate of Agriculture (DRAP). It is part of efforts to improve the quality of potato production in the Piura mountains. The first harvest is estimated to reach 15 tons of high-quality seed. The project is the result of joint efforts between the Señor de los Milagros JL Farmers Association, the Municipality of Juzgara, which provided construction materials, the Socioeconomic Development Department of the Provincial Municipality of Huancabamba, and the NGO Progreso. This is all within the framework of the Potato Technical Roundtable, a forum that seeks to coordinate actions for the benefit of potato producers. DRAP, as the technical arm of the Piura Regional Government, has provided specialized advice through the Huancabamba Agrarian Agency and its Partnership Area, promoting collaborative work between institutions and producers.
