Venezuela: MINCYT promotes training activities for potato crop growth in Falcón

The Foundation for the Development of Science and Technology (Fundacite) of Falcón state and the Corporation for Scientific and Technological Development (Codecyt) held the workshop "Flavors and Knowledge of Potato Cultivation."

The activity featured the participation of 28 local producers, who learned about the cultivation techniques and cultural importance of potatoes, especially the María Bonita variety with Class II certification.

This workshop, sponsored by the Scientific-Farmer Alliance, seeks to transfer technical knowledge and promote sustainable agriculture in the country’s rural communities.

The María Bonita variety stands out for its disease resistance and adaptability to the climatic conditions of the Falconian mountain range, contributing to improved agricultural production and the quality of life of local farmers.

During the day, the yield and quality of the harvest were evaluated, yielding an average of one kilogram per plant, with tubers of adequate size and a low incidence of disease, meeting certification standards.

The activity was organized and supervised by engineer Frank Zamora, a representative of Codecyt, and included the participation of engineer Yohana Vera from Fundacite Falcón.

Among the agreements reached are practical workshops to continue exploring the cultivation of potatoes and other local crops, as well as advancing training in cultivation techniques, soil management, and crop diversification, all with the goal of improving the region’s economic resilience.

With these actions, the Ministry of People’s Power for Science and Technology (MINCYT) reaffirms its commitment to sustainable agricultural development and the strengthening of rural communities in the Falcón state mountains, promoting respect for agricultural traditions and the added value of local products.
