Cuba: Potato harvest in Sierra de Cubitas
The average tonnes per hectare there is 12.5, which places the state favorably above the national average.

After twenty years without planting potatoes at the Sola Agricultural and Citrus Company, the entity began harvesting this crop two days ago with its own workers and mobilized forces.
Raúl Bárcenas González, director of the organization, announced that the total harvested total has reached 126 tons in the first ten hectares, with a good vegetative state and no signs of disease or pests.
He said the average tonnage per hectare there is 12.5, which places the state favorably above the national average.
From the red soils of the Sierra de Cubitas, potatoes have already been distributed to the territories of Nuevitas, Esmeralda, Minas, and Sola, while the reception has already begun in the city of Camagüey, with an average of two pounds per diner, at eleven pesos each.
The manager estimates that about 40 hectares of the crop remain underground, and his goal is to complete the process by the second week of May, which could be brought forward as the number of workers mobilized for harvesting increases.
