Italia: Potato production in Tuscany collapses due to wildlife
The weather, in particular the high temperatures and the lack of rain, have contributed to making the phenomenon worse.
A real hot potato, in every sense. The current historical period is not at all a good one. for the tuber, if only in Tuscany. As underlined by Coldiretti Pistoiese, in fact, the harvest is at serious risk due to the increasingly ambiguous weather but also and above all to wild fauna, wild boars first and foremost.
Companies in crisis
The agricultural association has highlighted how the high temperatures and the chronic lack of rain have in fact reduced the overall production by half. All this translates into a lower income for companies active in the sector, with a specific reference to those in the mountains. The concern, however, does not only derive from these facts.
The numbers of the yields
In fact, the companies themselves are forced to work a long time to adequately prepare the land for sowing, without forgetting the other processes and the necessary diesel. In some cases, as pointed out by those active in this sector, the traditional yield has dropped by as much as 80 percentage points.
