Ucrania: Potato prices 3.5 times higher than last year in Ukraine

Wholesale prices for potatoes in Ukraine have surged by 19% within a week, reaching 0.43 euros per kilogram, which is a 3.5-fold increase compared to the end of December last year.

This has been reported by representatives of the largest wholesale market in Western Ukraine, known as "Shuvar."

The combination of heightened demand, limited supply, and strategic decisions by major producers is contributing to a surge in potato prices. It creates challenges for both consumers and the industry at large.

It is noted that major producers are currently unwilling to sell potatoes for less than 0.33–0.43 euros per kilogram, which is 19% more expensive than just a week ago. Simultaneously, there has been a decrease in the supply of low-quality products, while the demand for high-quality potatoes has risen.

Additionally, some large farms are holding back sales of quality potatoes, anticipating further price increases.

There is currently an absence of potato imports into Ukraine, but the continued rise in prices could potentially trigger imports in the future.
