Paraguay (General Caballero): Potato harvest to begin soon, producers expect a fair price
Some 400 producers from the Iriarte I and Iriarte II companies are preparing to harvest the first batch of potatoes next week.

There are more than 400 potato producers in the area , of which around 20 hectares are already ready for harvest . Some of the farmers invested in the purchase of seeds, and others received early supplies from the Ministry of Agriculture.
On productive farms, everything is ready to harvest the potatoes, and they are waiting for a good price to be set on the national market. In this district, they estimate they will obtain around 100,000 kilos in the first harvest and intend to sell them for at least 5,000 guaraníes , which will generate an approximate income of 500 million guaraníes for the local economy.
They ask for support against smuggling
Farmers in the area emphasized that they need greater state support and stricter control of smuggling , since unfair competition directly affects domestic marketing and fair prices for domestic production.
On the other hand, production costs are high and many producers are in debt, so selling at a good price is key to sustaining their business.
With the first harvest now complete, Caballero producers hope the domestic market will respond favorably and that authorities will guarantee fair marketing conditions.
Furthermore, potato production in this part of the Paraguarí department was not affected by pests, thanks to daily controls.
In this district, the potato plants have healthy, green foliage. Some tubers weigh over half a kilo, all in good condition, generating great expectations of being able to sell the produce at a good price.
