Brazil: High local production volume limits new onion imports
The quality of imported onions is highlighted

The price of onions released in Porto Xavier (RS) remained unchanged this week (March 31 to April 4), at R$36.50 per 20 kg bag for "synthetic 14." The influx has been good since mid-March, but is not yet excessive. This is due to the high volume of onions produced in Brazil, which limits further imports. Despite this scenario, employees affirm that the lamps imported from abroad are of excellent quality, allowing them to gain increasing market share in the Brazilian market.
Irecê (BA), one of Brazil’s main producing regions, has been competing in the Northeast market primarily with good-quality onions from Argentina, with an influx of onions from the South as well. Prices in this market showed little variation this week (March 31 to April 4), closing at R$57.17 per 20-kg bag.
