Peru (Huánuco): Minister of Agriculture announces investment for potato production and export
The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Ángel Manero Campos, visited the Huánuco region and announced a series of measures aimed at strengthening potato production in the area.

According to him, the government will allocate S/120 million to ensure farmers’ access to water and promote the production of fortified and native potatoes for export purposes.
During his speech, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (Midagri) indicated that two key programs will be promoted in the region. First, he mentioned the development of iron-fortified potatoes, stating that this product will improve nutrition in the country and guarantee that farmers will receive at least S/1 per kilo in the field.
Secondly, Manero Campos highlighted the native potato export program, pointing out that this product will be sent to markets such as China, the United States and Europe, which will provide better economic opportunities for local producers. He assured that farmers will be able to receive up to S/3 per kilo in the field for the commercialization of this variety.
Processing and financing
The minister reported that the installation of a processing center for native potatoes in Huánuco is planned, which will allow the product to be transformed into flakes for export. He stated that this initiative will have private investment and that the installation process will begin this year.
He also pointed out that the financing of these programs will be covered 100% by Agrobanco, with an annual interest rate of 3.5%. He also mentioned that measures will be implemented to reschedule debts and provide working capital to producers.
Manero Campos said that water use on the coast will be regulated to avoid overproduction of white potatoes, a measure that, according to him, seeks to balance supply and stabilize prices in the market.
