Brazil: Potato harvest is in full swing and prices are falling
SP and BH recorded a devaluation of almost 20%

This week (24-28/02), the average price of special agate potato was R$ 52/25 kg bag in wholesale trade in São Paulo (SP), a 19.7% drop compared to the previous week; R$ 46/sc in Belo Horizonte (MG), down 19.7%, and R$ 47/sc in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), 16.3% lower.
The drop in prices this week is due to firmer weather. In the southern producing regions, there was no rain in recent days, so the harvest continued at a normal pace, and both Guarapuava (PR) and Água Doce (SC) are at the peak of harvest, and should offer abundant until the end of March.
In southern Minas Gerais, some of the potatoes that were due to be harvested in recent weeks were left in the ground for longer, in order to improve prices. However, due to the intense heat in the region, the tubers are rotting quickly and are having to be harvested and offered quickly, further increasing the supply on the market.
The Triángulo Mineiro region is intensifying harvests, areas of which are also being affected by the heat, and producers have to harvest the potatoes before they rot.
For the coming week, the forecast continues to call for high temperatures and no rain, which should keep supplies high.
