Peru: Midagri will inaugurate the Potato Museum in Ayacucho
During the official launch of the Week of the Peruvian Cause, the Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, Angel Manero Campos, announced that the Potato Museum will be inaugurated on Saturday, March 1 in the Ayacucho region.

With a view to continuing to promote potato consumption in Peruvian homes, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Midagri) launched the “Peruvian Cause Week,” an event that brought together various restaurants and potato producers from different regions of the country.
"This is the first year that we celebrate the National Week of the Cause, an emblematic dish of our gastronomy, which has potatoes and yellow chili peppers as ingredients. It is important to continue generating spaces and strategies to promote its consumption in the country," said Manero Campos.
Actions for the sustainability of the potato production chain
As part of the push for this production chain, the minister announced that "this year we will be important exporters of industrialized potatoes, and we will also commercially produce iron-fortified potatoes to combat anemia, with 50% more iron than conventional potatoes," he said.
“This Saturday we will inaugurate the Potato Museum in Ayacucho. In 2026 we must launch the national contest for the cause and other activities that will continue to add up. Native potato chips and flakes, potato distillate, a very fine liquor, similar to vodka, iron-fortified flakes for children, all these options will give value to the product that will contribute to having a more dynamic export,” he said.
In this way, Midagri not only seeks to promote potato consumption but also to support the availability of supply for family farmers, prevent oversupply and improve prices at the producer level, which will result in higher incomes and a better quality of life for peasant families.
“Potatoes are not only a potentially nutritious crop, but also a generator and driver of the regional economy in the producing areas. For example, last year alone, more than 27 million days of work were generated and the livelihood of peasant families was provided,” he stressed.
The Peruvian cause
As is known, through Ministerial Resolution No. 0054 – 2025-Midagri, the declaration of the fourth week of February of each year as the “National Week of the Peruvian Cause” was made official, with the aim of promoting one of the most important dishes of national gastronomy.
