INIAF evaluates potato crop clones with the option of releasing them as a new variety
INIAF carries out the work within the framework of the National Program for Tubers and Roots as part of the activities carried out by the research technicians of the Papa Yuca Project.
The National Institute for Agricultural and Forestry Innovation ( INIAF ) is characterizing and evaluating potential potato clones with the aim of releasing them as new varieties for industrial processing, said the director of the entity, Windson July Martínez.
The work is carried out within the framework of the National Program for Tubers and Roots, as part of the activities carried out by the research technicians of the Papa Yuca Project at the Toralapa Innovation Center, Cochabamba.
This initiative also represents a significant advance and projects a genetic and productive improvement of the potato, “aiming to meet the demands of the industry and strengthen the development of the national agricultural sector,” according to an institutional report.
The inspection was attended by the person responsible for the Valles Macro Region, the person responsible for the Toralapa National Center for Genetic Resources Innovation, technicians from the National Seed Directorate, and research and technology transfer technicians from the Potato and Cassava Project.
“During the event, key information was validated on the morphological characterization and productive potential of potato clones, candidates to become new varieties for industrial use,” INIAF reported.
The work is carried out within the framework of the National Program for Tubers and Roots.
