Argentina: Intense frosts impact potato production and raise concerns about potential losses in the millions.

Low temperatures have negatively impacted crops in the provinces of Córdoba and San Luis. According to producers, losses in some plantations could reach up to 80%.

The intense frosts recorded in recent hours have reignited concerns in the Argentine agricultural sector. With temperatures dropping below -3°C, potato producers in various regions, including Córdoba, Villa Dolores, and San Luis, have reported severe damage to their crops.

The sector reported that the latest plots began to be abandoned due to the critical impact of the cold, while in other fields the land will be used for planting green crops as a measure to try to mitigate the losses.

The situation not only affects the most delayed crops, but also those further along in development, where a drop in yields of between 50% and 80% is already projected compared to the previous year, generating concern among both producers and traders.

In addition to jeopardizing current production, these extreme frosts could directly influence prices and the supply of agricultural products in the coming months.

This climatic phenomenon once again highlights the vulnerability of the sector to extreme temperatures, increasing the level of concern in an economic scenario that is already challenging for Argentine agriculture.
