Spain: Consumption of fresh potatoes has decreased by more than 4.5 kilograms in the last decade.
Typical foods of the Mediterranean diet have been losing prominence in recent years, and fresh potatoes are no exception.
According to data collected by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) consumer panels, potato consumption in Spain has experienced significant variations in recent years. In December 2015, annual consumption per person was recorded at 21.91 kilos, increasing to 23.10 kilos in December 2020, driven by the pandemic. However, by December 2023, this indicator shows a notable drop, settling at 18.20 kilos per person per year, a figure that falls even further by July 2025, reaching 17.40 kilos per person per year. On the other hand, the consumption of frozen potatoes stands out for its marked growth, with an increase of nearly 18%.
