Brazil: Rains raise wholesale prices

This week (February 3-7), the average price of special agate potatoes was R$58.16/25 kg bag in the wholesale market in São Paulo (SP), an increase of 6.04% compared to the previous week; R$57.23/bag in Belo Horizonte (MG), an increase of 11.84%, and R$56.25/bag in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), an increase of 10.19%. At the beginning of the week, rain in Guarapuava (PR) and in the Minas Gerais markets made harvesting in the field difficult, reducing supply and increasing market prices. The wholesale market in São Paulo was the least affected, since potatoes have been coming in from Rio Grande do Sul, where there has been little rain.
