Asia: Potato shortage in Kazakhstan
In Kazakhstan, the potato market is currently under considerable price pressure due to limited supplies and a spike in demand, according to an analytical report from the ...
..."Grains and Oils" research bureau, shared by the Ministry of Agriculture. The increase in production costs is also playing a role in driving up prices.
In Pavlodar, the country’s primary potato-producing region, wholesale prices are now between 0.14 and 0.19 euros per kilogram due to increased demand and the gradual depletion of stock.
In the Almaty region, another significant area for potato cultivation, prices have reached 0.28 euros per kilogram, attributed to the high demand and scarce availability.
Experts have noted that in Astana, almost all potato stocks have been depleted, with the remaining potatoes priced at 0.075 euros per kilogram.
In Northern Kazakhstan, producers are holding back their stocks in anticipation of further price increases, with current prices ranging from 0.19 to 0.26 euros.
The Kostanay region is facing similar issues with limited potato stocks, which has pushed prices to range from 0.22 to 0.34 euros per kilogram.
Turning to the onion market, the Jambul region is experiencing a price surge due to high demand, with onions priced between 0.14 and 0.19 euros. Some producers have stopped sales in the Almaty region because of reduced stocks and increased production costs, with onion prices at 0.12 to 0.13 euros per kilogram.
