Ecuador: In the province of Azuay, the MAGP carried out an operation focused on the objective yields of the potato crop.
For this operation in the province, the Paute canton was chosen due to its prominent position as one of the main potato producing areas.
This week, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (MAGP) conducted the Potato Yield Targets Operation in the canton of Paute, Azuay province. This initiative is based on a technical methodology that allows for the collection of precise, georeferenced, and objective information on the productivity of this key crop, with the aim of improving agricultural planning and optimizing decision-making in the potato sector.
Paute was chosen within the province due to its importance as one of the main potato-producing areas. Technicians from the Azuay District Directorate conducted a thorough data collection among local producers, gathering key socioeconomic, production, and technical information that directly influences crop yield. The samples obtained will be analyzed at the Santa Catalina Experimental Station of the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INIAP) to calculate precise productivity indicators.
