Vietnam: An excellent example of green agricultural development
The An Nong Agricultural Cooperative (Hoan Lao commune) is considered a model of ecological agricultural transformation.
In the context of agricultural production increasingly affected by market forces and climate change, since its inception, the An Nong Agricultural Cooperative has used organic farming methods to ensure sustainable agricultural production.
With over 2.8 hectares of land dedicated to growing a variety of fruits and vegetables, the cooperative implements pest and disease control measures based on natural methods, respecting the orchard’s ecosystem and avoiding the use of pesticides. This sustainable agricultural approach maintains environmental hygiene and improves the soil’s nutritional quality.
The An Nong Agricultural Cooperative is not only a "bright spot" in green agricultural production, but it is always innovating its operating model, applying science and technology, and especially expanding its links with farmers to produce and consume products in accordance with green and sustainable agricultural production processes.

Currently, An Nong provides technical advice, support for seed purchases, and product buyback guarantees to farmers in Quang Ninh commune who cultivate two hectares of purple brown rice. This local variety of rice, grown and harvested using safe agricultural methods, boasts high nutritional value.
Specifically, since 2025, the An Nong Agricultural Cooperative has collaborated with the Vietnam Institute of Biology and Technology and Orion Company (Korea) to partner with farmers in the communes of Hoan Lao and Nam Trach to grow potatoes.
Mr. Le Dinh Qua, director of the An Nong Agricultural Cooperative, stated, “The potatoes are grown according to the process developed by the Vietnam Institute of Biology and Technology, meeting VietGAP standards, and the Orion company purchases the entire product. To date, the model has been implemented on 15 hectares with 10 participating households. Participating households receive support of 10 million VND per hectare.”
According to Mr. Le Dinh Qua, potatoes are grown on land previously used for cassava cultivation. Potato production reaches 15 tons per hectare, with a contractual purchase price of 8,200 VND per kilogram at the farm gate. On average, farmers earn over 140 million VND per hectare, double the income they receive from cassava. Furthermore, potatoes can be harvested in as little as 3.5 months (compared to 7-8 months for cassava).
Mr. Le Van Hung (Bang Village, Hoan Lao Commune) commented, “By participating in the potato farming model in collaboration with the An Nong Agricultural Cooperative, we received support in implementing safe and environmentally friendly production processes. In particular, we don’t have to worry about selling our produce, and our income has doubled compared to what we earned growing cassava, which gives us a lot of security.”
Mr. Le Dinh Qua, Director of the Cooperative, added: “Orion Company has a high demand for raw potatoes, so in the future, the Cooperative will continue to expand its concentrated potato production area and strengthen support and partnerships to help farmers produce potatoes that meet the required standards. The goal of the An Nong Agricultural Cooperative is to support farmers in increasing their income and developing sustainable organic farming.”
