In the productive hub of the municipality of Sierra de Cubitas, in the province, traditional potato cultivation is resumed with 57 hectares distributed among three irrigation machines.

María Magdalena Artuñedo Pérez, head of the Development, Science and Environment Department of the Provincial Delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture, explained that they have the necessary technological package, as well as all the soil conditions that allow the vitality of these plantations.
He said that the productions should benefit the town and the self-sufficiency of the territory.
He also commented that in four municipalities of Camagüey, six producers and the Agroindustrial Grain Company Ruta Invasora are promoting agroecological potatoes on seven hectares, as part of the commitments of the current cold sowing campaign.
In this regard, he added that all agroecological practices are employed, in addition to the use of packages containing biofertilizers and bioproducts.
Since 2022, he said, Camagüey has been part of the Capacity Building Project to extend agroecology on family farms, with stable production during three cold campaigns that contribute to local food systems.
