Spain: A ton of sour potatoes costs 400 euros
The session of the León Market held on Wednesday, February 12, has ended with a new rise in the price of potatoes, which gained between twenty and thirty euros per ton, depending on the variety.

Potato prices continue to rise at the León market. The combination of a limited domestic supply and low quality imported potatoes has pushed prices up again. Prices for sour varieties rose by thirty euros per tonne - which are now at €400/t - and Kennebec, which led to more moderate increases of twenty euros per tonne for the other varieties listed.
Let us remember, however, that the sour variety was sold out last season at the same Leonese market, in April 2024, at 480 euros/tonne. Therefore, the evolution of the price will continue to depend on whether the quality of the imported production regains credit for the industry’s demands, especially with the current trend in Spain of a decline in the consumption of fresh potatoes and an increase in frozen and processed potatoes.
