Honduras (Intibucá): SAG promotes potato production through direct dialogue with producers
More than 300 potato producers from the department of Intibucá met with representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG) to discuss strategies aimed at boosting national production.
Representatives from the Association of Potato Farmers and Producers of Intibucá (ACAPPI) and the Association of Lenca Farmers of Intibucá (AGRILENCA) participated in the meeting. During the meeting, key issues for strengthening the sector were discussed, with a focus on solutions to local needs.
The dialogue was led by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Ricardo Peña, who led the talks on the delivery of the potato bonus, access to financing, the regulation of imports and the promotion of technical assistance for producers in the region.
Throughout the day, Vice Minister Peña, representing the head of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG), Moisés Abraham Molina, listened directly to the main problems facing the potato sector. He reiterated the institution’s commitment to working alongside producers in search of sustainable solutions.
Furthermore, he emphasized that these actions are aligned with the directives of the President of the Republic, Nasry Asfura, aimed at strengthening national agricultural production, improving food security and boosting the rural economy in productive regions such as Intibucá.
Authorities reported that the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG) is in the planning stage to coordinate the distribution of the potato growers’ bonus. They are also working to coordinate efforts with other state institutions to address the sector’s needs and generate direct benefits for producers.
For his part, Juan Fernando Meza, president of ACAPPI, expressed his gratitude for the SAG’s attention during their visit to the area. He stated that they trust the process for receiving the potato bonus and also requested additional support in the form of fertilizers and resources to guarantee potato production and a constant supply.
