Tunisia: Potatoes, more than 13,000 tonnes harvested this season in Gafsa
The Regional Commission for Agricultural Development (CRDA) of Gafsa announced an end-of-season potato harvest estimated at 13,664 tonnes, grown on a total area of 854 hectares.
This production marks an important milestone for the current agricultural campaign.
According to Kais Chalbi, head of the plant production department at the CRDA of Gafsa, the harvest is distributed among several areas of the region. The Sned delegation records an area of 350 hectares, followed by Gafsa North with 235 hectares, Zannouch with 250 hectares, Sidi Aich with 15 hectares and Gafsa South with 4 hectares.
A total of 3,428 tonnes of potatoes remain available after harvesting, constituting an essential reserve for the domestic market. Kais Chalbi said, in an intervention on a private radio, that this harvest plays a key role in supplying the local market and helps stabilise the supply to meet the growing needs of consumers.
