Peru: The 5th National Potato Congress will be held in Lima

From June 22 to 24, 2026, the V National Potato Congress will be held at the Auditorium of the National Institute of Agricultural Innovation (INIA).

The meeting, organized by INIA and Fontagro, has as its main objective to promote the exchange of knowledge, encourage scientific research and contribute to the strengthening of food security, resilience and economic development of the country, focusing its efforts on one of the most representative crops of our nation.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), in 2025, the national potato production reached a total of 6.9 million tons, harvested on an area of ​​373,332 hectares, with an average yield of 20.6 tons per hectare.

Potato cultivation plays a central role in the country’s agricultural activity, providing a livelihood for more than 711,000 farming families across 19 regions. It also generates approximately 25 million workdays in the agricultural sector.

Among the main potato-producing regions are Cajamarca, Junín, Huánuco, Cusco, Ayacucho, Apurímac and Puno, consolidating themselves as the largest contributors to the national production of the tuber.

Regarding exports, for the same year, 2025, shipments of processed potatoes showed a remarkable growth of 19% compared to the previous year, exceeding 11,000 tons shipped abroad. The main destination markets include Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, the United States, and various European countries.
