Irlanda: Irish retail demand for EU potatoes picks up after festive season
Retail demand for potatoes and Irish household consumption have fallen somewhat since the holiday period but are expected to pick up again.

There should be no further downward pressure on the markets as yields are average and stocks should not be too high after last year’s shortages. However, a major concern is the availability of seed potatoes for the coming season.
After the holidays, the export market for potatoes in Europe is slowly starting up again, with good demand from Spain to Agria. Demand is gradually increasing and prices are stable, although more and more growers seem to be looking for movement in the market. Factories are prioritizing the settlement of contracts, but there is also a demand for free purchases to move stock and secure supplies for the coming months. Growers are now more confident in the market and hope for higher prices.
