Mexico: Sonora leads potato production with more than 25% of the national production.
According to data updated to April 2026, Sagarhpa recorded a production of 613,000 tons in 2024, while in 2025 it reached 688,194 tons.
The state reaffirms its position as the main potato producer in Mexico by consolidating its leadership during the 2025-2026 agricultural cycle, thanks to high yields and sustained growth in its production.
According to figures updated to April 2026, production reached 613,000 tons in 2024 and increased to 688,194 tons in 2025, representing an increase of 12.27 percent.
In the current cycle, it is estimated that Sonora contributes more than 25 percent of the national production, consolidating itself as a key reference in the sector.
The state also stands out for its high levels of productivity, with yields ranging from 36 to 37.2 tons per hectare, well above the national average of approximately 27 tons.
Economically, potato production contributes an estimated value of 5.8 billion pesos, becoming a fundamental pillar for the regional economy.
This activity is concentrated mainly in the northwest and south of the state. Municipalities like Caborca and San Luis Río Colorado stand out for their innovative, technologically advanced production, while in the south, particularly in Cajeme and Navojoa, farmers maintain stable harvests that have recently exceeded 36,000 tons.
