Brazil: With increasing supply, potato prices drop significantly
The devaluation was close to 20% during the week in all wholesale markets.
This week (July 13-17), prices for Agata specialty potatoes averaged R$ 73.08/25kg sack (-18.58%) in the São Paulo wholesale market, R$ 65.73/sack in Rio de Janeiro (-20.63%) and R$ 63.08/sack in Belo Horizonte (-20.10%).
These significant drops are due to the intensification of the harvest in Vargem Grande do Sul, which, although it has not yet reached its peak production, has already significantly intensified sales this week, with a strong and significant supply in the main wholesale markets of the country, currently being the main producing region.
An increase in supply is expected in the coming weeks, as more areas are expected to be offered and higher productivity is anticipated.
