Bolivia (Oruro): Frosts destroy potato and quinoa crops and disaster declaration requested.

An intense cold wave hit Marka Andamarca, in the department of Oruro, and caused serious damage to agricultural production, especially to potato and quinoa crops.

The indigenous authorities of Marka Andamarca, in the department of Oruro, Bolivia, have formally requested a disaster declaration due to intense frosts that have devastated local agricultural production. Details of the damage
  • Damaged area: It is estimated that around 420 hectares of crops have been completely affected by the low temperatures.
  • Regional impact: The frosts have been felt strongly in much of the district, putting the food security of producing families at risk during a critical period for the harvest.
  • Request for help: Given the magnitude of the losses, representatives of the region demand the urgent intervention of the Oruro Governorate and the central government to channel resources and technical assistance.
This event adds to a series of climatic contingencies affecting the agricultural sector in the Andean region during the beginning of 2026.
