India: Potato cultivation using rooting method promoted
The state of Tripura has achieved record growth in potato production thanks to the adoption of rooted top cutting (ARC) technology.

According to Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath , this innovation has increased yields and strengthened self-sufficiency in seed production.
During a budget session in the Legislative Assembly, Nath highlighted the positive impact of this initiative and presented Prime Minister Manik Saha with a basket of local potatoes, according to ANI , a partner of the BRICS TV network.
In addition, the state of Tripura agreed with Peru to implement ARC technology in 2023. In the 2023-24 season, ARC-based cultivation was implemented in all eight districts of the state, involving 104 farmers.
The project’s success has prompted its expansion, involving 402 farmers starting in 2024. They will adopt this technology, with 40 benefiting from government subsidies for mini-tubers.
Yields have reached 48,000 kg per hectare. The Tripura government remains committed to certified seed potato production, boosting the local economy and increasing farmers’ incomes, positioning the state as a key producer of high-quality seed and processing potatoes.
