Brazil: Despite the rains in MG, supply remains high
Productivity and quality are high in Chapada Diamantina

This week (March 17 and 21), the average price of special agate potatoes remained stable in all wholesalers monitored by Hortifrúti/Cepea: R$ 48/25 kg bag in wholesalers in São Paulo (SP), R$ 47/bag in Belo Horizonte (MG) and R$ 49/bag in Rio de Janeiro (RJ).
Although prices have remained unchanged for two weeks, prices are low given the high supply.
Despite the rains that occurred earlier this week in Cerrado Mineiro (MG), the harvest was reduced in only a few crops, and was offset by other areas where uprooting began.
In southern Minas Gerais, the weather is still hot, which means that potatoes have to be dug out of the ground quickly, as they lose quality and become small, without completing their full development.
Chapada Diamantina (BA) has high productivity and good quality tubers, also contributing to the high supply, mainly to the wholesale market of Minas Gerais.
In Guarapuava (PR), some producers are slowing down their harvest, and the region is entering a pause, which should resume next month.
