Argentina (Río Negro): They will begin evaluating the European market for onion exports
This weekend will see the 26th Mercosur Onion Seminar, which will take place on March 21 and 22 in Viedma, Río Negro, and Hilario Ascasubi, Buenos Aires.

This event will bring together producers, companies, institutions, and international experts to analyze current industry trends, share technical knowledge, and discuss the challenges and opportunities in onion production and marketing.
With the participation of international exhibitors from Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Chile, and Germany, the conclave is positioned as a strategic space for the exchange of experiences and strengthening cooperation in the onion sector.
Speaking with DESTINO SUR on FM DE LA COSTA, Germán Cariac, an agricultural engineer and director of the INTA Valle Inferior experimental farm, provided more details on the matter and announced that the seminar will be an opportunity to begin thinking about new markets.
The event, Cariac indicated, "has been going on for a few years and has been changing locations. On this occasion, colleagues from Hilario Ascasubi invited us to participate, given the growing importance of the crop in our region."
He emphasized that "we were happy to accept the offer because we see that farming, both in terms of generating labor, irrigated land, and economic development, is gaining importance."
At that point, he explained the need to "be able to talk about markets other than Brazil: see if we can reduce dependence, considering that some areas might be doing poorly so that our onions’ value increases. Europe is a market worth continuing to evaluate."
