Spain: Seville hosts an international demonstration of potato varieties
On April 24th, the traditional event organized by Sesur will be held in Brenes, Seville, to showcase the development of more than 200 varieties of potatoes in open fields.

The future of potato production will be the focus of an International Field Day to be held in Brenes, near Seville. This experimental field features more than 200 potato varieties from some 20 leading European breeders and offers a unique platform for evaluating and discussing advances in potato breeding.
New varieties and advances in genetic improvement
The event will bring together farmers, breeders, processors, distributors, researchers, and representatives from across Europe. The latest developments in potato breeding will be presented, with a focus on disease resistance, heat and drought tolerance, and adaptation to the specific climatic conditions of the Mediterranean region.
Test results and practical applications
The results of the trials will provide valuable information on which varieties perform best under southern European growing conditions. In addition, topics such as sustainability, irrigation efficiency, and innovative agricultural practices will be addressed.
Networking and international collaboration
The International Field Day will be an excellent opportunity for exchange among various stakeholders in the potato sector. Companies and research institutions will be able to establish new collaborations and develop strategies to ensure sustainable and resilient potato production in the future.

Sessor
SESUR is a technical services company in the agricultural sector based in Seville, southern Spain. The company specializes in potatoes, and SESUR annually produces early potato programs for the European export market. For over 15 years, SESUR has been testing the genetics of European breeders to verify their suitability for the Mediterranean region.
Every year, SESUR organizes internal screening trials. This means that breeders test potential new varieties in a different climate zone several years before the respective variety is approved, with the aim of registering these clones as varieties if the results are convincing, or, otherwise, excluding them from further breeding.
At irregular intervals every few years, SESUR organizes a public variety trial in Seville, offering breeders and their representatives the opportunity to compare their latest varieties directly and present them to an expert audience.
