Países Bajos: Potato exports continue to rise
The Netherlands exported 77,815 tonnes of consumer and industrial potatoes in November. That is more than 5,000 tonnes more than the month before and in November 2023. This is evident from figures from the Dutch Potato Organisation (NAO).
he main buyer of Dutch potatoes within the European Union (EU) was Belgium in November 2024 with 31,960 tonnes. That is slightly less than in October, when our southern neighbours imported 36,456 tonnes of potatoes from the Netherlands.
In the EU, France was also an important buyer in November with 6,372 tonnes. Within Europe, interest in Dutch potatoes is also increasing from the United Kingdom. Last month, 3,532 tonnes left for the British. That is more than 1,000 tonnes more than in October (around 2,500 tonnes).
Nearly 16,000 tons to Africa
From the African country of Senegal, the desire to buy Dutch potatoes is increasing again. While exports to this country in October were stuck at 2,000 tonnes, in November 7,669 tonnes went there. Within Africa, Ivory Coast was also an important buyer last month with 2,418 tonnes. In total, the Netherlands exported 15,676 tonnes to Africa in November. This is comparable to the export in November 2023.
Sales figures to America are also comparable to last year. In November 2024, the Netherlands exported 8,115 tonnes of potatoes to this continent, with the Dominican Republic (2,704 tonnes) as the main buyer, followed by Trinidad and Tobago (1,430 tonnes).
From the 2024 harvest, our country exported a total of 295,933 tonnes up to and including 30 November. That is a lot less than the interim result in 2023 at the same time of measurement, when 348,237 tonnes of potatoes had already crossed the border.
