Países Bajos: Industry processes 20 percent fewer Dutch potatoes
The processing of domestic potatoes in Dutch factories has fallen by 20 percent. This is evident from figures from the Association for the Potato Processing Industry (Vavi).
The processing of Dutch potatoes has not been as small in the month of November in the past decade as it was this year. The raw material supply from Dutch soil to the factories fell last month to 155,300 tons.
Processing of imported potatoes was also a lot quieter last month – with 145,300 tonnes – than in October. But compared to last year, more potatoes from abroad were processed (+4 percent).
The total processing in November amounts to 300,600 tons. This is 10 percent less processed than a year earlier. In five months, the factories used 1.2 million tons of potatoes to make products such as French fries, potato wedges and croquettes.
The deficit compared to last season has now increased to 91,500 tonnes, or 5.7 percent. 57,900 tonnes more were processed from imports, while the supply of domestic potatoes fell by 149,400 tonnes.
